Could Matthew McConaughey be headed for another Oscar, just three years after taking home the Best Actor trophy for Dallas Buyers Club? The “McConnaisance” has been good to the Magic Mike actor, as he’s been able to stretch his talents like never before from sci-fi epics like Interstellar to historical dramas like Free State of Jones. One of his most recent efforts is the highly anticipated drama Gold, and TWC-Dimension announced today that it has slated the film for wide release on Christmas Day of this year, putting it directly into the awards fray.
December 25th falls on a Sunday this year, so Gold will be hitting theaters just over a week after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and a few days after Assassin’s Creed, the animated Sing, and the Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence sci-fi romance Passengers.
Matthew McConaughey is heading back to school this fall to teach a course on filmmaking at the University of Texas at Austin.

The university tells the San Antonio Express-News that the actor will take 30 students behind the scenes of McConaughey and Ross’ latest film, “The Free State of Jones” through recorded videos. The school says McConaughey will make at least one visit to campus for the class.
The 1993 Texas grad has a home in Austin and has been seen on the sidelines at Longhorns football games.
Matthew McConaughey is about to appear in a string of high-profile silver screen roles including as a Civil-War-era rebel hero and Stephen King movie villain. But he’s still haunted by the nihilistic character he played on the small screen for HBO’s True Detective. In fact, he liked the character so much that he’s still interested in reprising the role.
“I miss Rust Cohle, man,” he said in an interview with Rich Eisen on The Rich Eisen Show Wednesday. “I miss watching him on Sunday nights.”
